The secret of Scandinavian decoration is its details

Minimalism, maximalism or "lagom"

The Scandinavian decoration is not only what we see represented by an IKEA furniture and accessories decoration, nor am I saying that they cannot exist, or even that they are totally minimalist. What is true is that these details are mostly objects chosen very carefully and that seek to represent something from each person. An essence to both the home and its owner. The truth is that these details have a purpose. It turns out that in Scandinavia we can spend quite a few months stuck at home. These months range from mid-October well into April of the following year, that is, approximately 6 months. These are six months in which we leave the house in the dark in the morning and return home again in the dark at 4 or 5 pm in the afternoon. The result of this is to find that our home, due to the lack of natural light, is as livable and harmonious as possible.

Having a couple of furniture, a few paintings, colored or white walls, kitchen without a soul could seem like a minimalist description, but not necessarily Scandinavian. The Scandinavian style is something more; it is more vivid and more harmonious. It is functional in form and style but without losing its essence and it is full of details that to the eye of a minimalist can be seen as maximalist. What happens is that everything is in its own space, fulfilling a function and not looking cluttered.

A small lamp in the window is essential in Scandinavian countries, candle holders with candles, a large piece of furniture accompanied by small armchairs, comfortable with cushions that invite you to sit, baskets with blankets to shelter at the foot of a fireplace, and plants that indicate that there is life in the cold white winter seen from the windows. Personally, I enjoy having little ceramic objects to put on the windows and small tables. The objects in the Scandinavian style bring a whole world of details, but they allow your home to have coziness in terms of space, form, and function.

You can almost say that everything is in its own context in each space, but it really is not as minimalist as it seems. It is full of life. As for the typical phrase of minimalism: "less is more", it can be said that it cannot be taken literally. Rather, “less” refers to the Scandinavian style being precise and adequate, and “more” refers to the style being as simple as possible while yet keeping the details. In short, using the Swedish word "lagom" is more appropriate for the Scandinavian decoration.

"Lagom" itself does not have a precise translation in any language, but its interpretation is neither little nor much; “lagom” is enough, it is a balance. "Lagom" represents a whole philosophy that also defines Swedish and Scandinavian decoration. This can vary, however, in a range from minimalist to maximalist and depending on the individual. The person’s needs determine to what degree this range moves on one side or the other side. The important thing is that it keeps its essence and functionality.

Another important point in the Scandinavian style is that there are many objects for home decoration. Thus, it is impossible to be changing decoration constantly when new IKEA furniture is released. Items include everything from lamps, furniture, and ceramics to cabinets and shelves. In these cases, we prefer a sofa, a lamp, a ceramic or a painting of good quality. All these objects are "timeless" that can last a lifetime and do not have to be new or replaced often. Many of these objects could also be inherited, bought in second-hand stores, street markets, online pages for second-hand objects such or auctions. The most interesting thing is that they can be obtained at a very good price and if one gets tired, they can be easily be sold or given to another person because there are always people interested in them. The decoration in Scandinavian style is thus very eco-friendly.

Elección de colores en tonos naturales…

Lo natural  en la decoración escandinava de hoy

Siempre ha sido muy importante el uso de los colores claros en la decoración nórdica, todo generado por paredes claras y maderas de color claro.  Hoy por hoy toda esa decoración clara está exaltada  por textiles suaves de lino  y canastos artesanales, estos últimos detalles dan ese aire rústico sin perder su sentido minimalista y funcional muy propio del estilo escandinavo.

Sin embargo no es algo tan nuevo, siempre la decoración escandinava  se ha  distinguido por el gran mérito que ha dado a lo artesanal, a lo natural y hecho a mano, a todos esos detalles que hacen siempre la diferencia; se han hecho con amor y con mucho estilo.

Son muchos los objetos y detalles los que toman protagonismo en esta decoración simple y sencilla, pero sin lugar a dudas, en los detalles lo más importantes son los materiales usados para realizarlos. En ese caso  la madera es el material  protagonista en la decoración nórdica;  la encontramos en muebles de diseño  de lineas simples, suaves y funcionales y en preciosos suelos,  también en algunos objetos tallados a mano muy usados en la actualidad.

Aquí para muestra de todo lo dicho he encontrado  este bello piso.  A mí  me  ha encantado... todo se ve su lugar, limpio sin recargos pero también con una atmósfera  desenfadada y elegante. ¿Qué te ha parecido este apartamento? ¿Te ha gustado tanto como a mí?

A mi particularmente me gustan los productos innovadores que se ajusten a los tiempos modernos en que vivimos. Hoy encontramos muchos de estos.  Desde el pasado 31 de marzo, hay  toda una  línea de iluminación inteligente en todas las tiendas IKEA .

Es toda una serie completa de productos (luces LED)  y de iluminación inteligente que ayuda a hacer más sencilla la iluminación del hogar. Con TRÅDFRI una aplicación que hace posible configurar temporizadores y crear diferentes ambientes de luz y adaptarlo a lo que estamos haciendo en ese momento. Si trabajamos  o leemos necesitamos más luz y se requiere de una  luz más intensa y brillante, pero si  por el contrario lo que queremos es tener un ambiente más cálido de relax se puede cambiar a una luz más suave y débil. De esta manera podemos controlar la luz de diferentes ambientes de la vivienda de acuerdo a lo que hacemos.
Con la luz sabemos que podemos cambiar y  crear estados de ánimo. Y eso sí que lo sé yo!... en invierno me hace mucha falta la luz natural, y en el verano por el contario tenemos de sobra acá en Suecia.
Es bien sabido que en lugares como en Suecia o en todo en norte de Europa los  meses de invierno son de  muy pocas horas de luz y  es necesario crearla  artificialmente. Ahora ya podemos iluminar para  disfrutar, adecuándola a nuestras actividades, días de luz y estados de ánimo. Aquí les  unos videos de Ikea  para observar como funciona.

 

 

 

Con la aplicación TRÅDFRI  o el control remoto, pueden variar fácilmente la temperatura de color de las luces LED inteligentes.

Una elegante casa nórdica de principios del siglo XX

Una casa antigua  para vivir en tiempos modernos

La casa diseñada por Victor Segerstedt en 1912 tiene una arquitectura impresionante, con techos altos como las que se suelen encontrar en  antiguas casas señoriales suecas de principios del siglo pasado.  Elegante, con mucha luminosidad, grandes ventanales y con una decoración impecable está llena también de diseño y mucho estilo nórdico. Encontramos muchos pequeños detalles de antaño mezclados con otros modernos,  los colores que predominan en su interior son el blanco y el gris en diferentes tonalidades, todo decorado con esmero  para el gusto y medida de una familia de hoy.

La cocina, una de las protagonistas de la casa, tiene una  bella encimera de mármol  y unos  armarios blancos muy altos. Allí además,  podemos observar los bonitos  grifos que se ven debajo de la ventana como detalles de otras épocas; dan un aire nostálgico al lugar.

Otro lugar magnífico que me encanta  es la majestuosa y bonita entrada en la que encontramos una gran chimenea …   y al fondo vemos  las escaleras de madera con detalles  que proporcionan un toque elegante y muy calido.
